For over five years, Multiply have been bringing you different ways to share and communicate with the people you know, and as some of you noticed yesterday, they enabled another one. They’ve partnered with a service you may have heard of – Meebo – to bring you all the awesomeness of instant messaging, right on Multiply.
This helps make it easier and more fun to stay in touch with the people you know on Multiply. Your contacts (and only your contacts) will be able to see when you’re online, and contact you via IM.
That’s right, only your direct, approved contacts can see when you’re online, and only they can contact you. If you don’t want people IMing you, you can easily sign out of it by setting your status to “offline.” Or, as some members have already noted, visit My Account Info and “Disable the Multiply chat bar” to turn off the feature entirely.
But you really shouldn’t. It’s great because it has everything to love about IM services, except it’s on Multiply and thus features the important people in your life. And for those who know individuals not on Multiply, you can use IM on Multiply to sign on to the dozens of other services that Meebo supports, like AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Jabber and… Facebook?! (Not that you would necessarily want to use some of these… :-)
Those who already use Meebo for their IM needs will be pleased to hear that you can also access your Multiply contact list and communicate with your contacts via a Meebo.com account. (Note that a Meebo account is not required to use IM on Multiply.)
For those who have already tried this feature, what do you like best about it? What would you change?
